Esya Centre: While citing auctions held in the past, it said that a significant portion of the spectrum was sold at the reserve price. As per Esya, in 2014, 2015 and 2016, only 53%, 79% and 21% of the spectrum put to auction were sold above the reserve price, respectively. Similarly, it said that in 2022, over 99% of the spectrum was sold at the reserve price, despite the telecom regulator reducing the reserve price for many frequency bands.
The cost of acquiring licences through satellite spectrum auctions can be huge.That could prove to be a significant financial entry barrier to start-ups.
