BILLINGS, Mont., April 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Compared to 2019, the proportion of first-time campers across the U.S. grew five-fold, while the number of households that own RVs grew by 2.6 million, according to the latest research from Kampgrounds of America s annual North American Camping Report. COVID-19 proved a key driver behind the influx of many camping attributes, including the 10.1 million households who camped for the first-time in 2020, of which one-third attributed trying camping due to the belief that it is a safe way to travel and desire to avoid crowds. More than 60% of these first-time campers plan to camp the same or more in the coming year; across all campers, families are the group most likely to spend more nights camping in 2021.
LAGRANGE â With tens of thousands of people expected to buy their first recreational vehicle this year, one of the biggest challenges facing RVâers and campers this summer might just be finding a campsite.
The RV industry, which saw a strong year in 2020 because of the pandemic, is expected to skyrocket this year.
The RV Industry Association, a trade group that closely monitors RV production, said preliminary data suggests 2021 will be the best year for production the industry has ever seen in the 40 years RVIA has been collecting data.
With that many campers on the road, both public and private campgrounds are expected to be filled this summer â especially holidays and weekends â and likely will remain in high demand the rest of the season, said the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds in their latest trends and insights report.
