SASKATOON Frontline workers and former gang members in Saskatoon say they re noticing younger people getting involved with gangs. Unfortunately, I feel like it s becoming an epidemic with our young people joining gangs, former gang member Owen Pelletier said. Pelletier said he was exposed to gangs when he was locked up at the age of 13. He said at first he was scared until he realized the others were just like him, suffering the same intergenerational traumas. There was no positive mentors or guides in my life at that time, saying ‘come this way man, let me guide you. There wasn t none of that. It was the gangsters saying ‘come here little homie, have some cash, come hang with us, we got you, we ll show you some love, he told CTV News.
SASKATOON The Saskatoon Blades are getting used to life in a bubble, preparing for their opening game of a 24-game WHL regular season Saturday afternoon against Swift Current. “Essentially, it s a long road trip,” said head coach Mitch Love. Players and staff from seven WHL teams are living at the dorms on the University of Regina campus, with practice times split between the Co-operators Centre and the Brandt Centre, where every game will be played. Other than the amount of games played, “every other day essentially, for 48 days”, things don’t appear to be that different on the ice.
SASKATOON The current state of the Prairie Heights condo in Saskatoon is the result of condo owners not properly screening renters, according to the Saskatchewan Landlord Association CEO. “We’ve all seen pictures of the state of this property and it’s deplorable and something needs to be done,” said Cameron Choquette. “You don’t see this in bigger cities like Toronto.” Over the weekend, two stabbings occurred at Prairie Heights, located on 20th Street West in the city s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood. Donovan Shepherd, 23, was found dead on the sidewalk in front of the condo. T’Na Htoo, 31, has been charged with second degree murder.
