Yung up for multiple SCMA awards

Yung s father, and a member of her band Murray Yung is up for Bass Player of the Year. This is not Yung s first time to be nominated, but she said she remains excited every year. I don t think they will ever lose their importance, she said. It s an honour to be nominated as I know there are so many other talented people in this province, and not everyone gets to be in the top-five. So I am truly grateful for everyone who decided to put that check mark beside my name. I still get nervous before the nominations come out because everyone just keeps getting better and better and one day my name may not be there anymore.

Runions nominated for Songwriter of the Year

Runions felt they were more deserving of this nomination. “I had my first live show in basically a year back on Feb. 5 and 6 at the Happy Nun Café in Forget,” said Runions. “My fiancée is a singer/songwriter as well so we went and did an acoustic show there. It was sold out both nights which was good.” “It was just amazing to play again,” said Runions. “It felt so good. Everyone enjoyed themselves. I think people just wanted to get out. People just wanted a reason to do something.” “It feels good to get back in front of a live audience,” added Runions. “Absolutely it’s great and the crowd is so appreciative and it was a really attentive crowd. It was a good start to playing again after a full year.”

Controversy And A Resignation At The SCMA

By Craig Wallebeck Feb 22, 2021 7:39 AM A comment about indigenous artists which was intended to be a joke, but wasn’t taken that way, is spurring some change and causing some turmoil in the Saskatchewan Country Music Association. SCMA president Wes Labrash says it is a difficult discussion when you have to acknowledge systemic racism exists within the organization, but it is a discussion that had to be had. Saskatoon’s Jarrid Lee asked what had happened to the Indigenous Artist of the Year award. Board member Reg Wilke responded by saying “why should we give them an award when they’re just going to pawn it off anyway?’. Wilkie apologized, and resigned.
