DUBAI: The Sundance Institute, the nonprofit organization that organizes the yearly Sundance Film Festival, announced the recipients of its 2021 Women at Sundance Adobe Fellowship on Tuesday and two Arab filmmakers have made the cut: Meryam Joobeur and Malika Zouhali-Worrall. The year-round program aims to support women artists creating new work in film and media.

The CEE Animation Workshop, the year-long project development and producer skills advancement training programme, has unveiled the selection for its third edition. With the focus on the quality of projects, the most intense competition was among the series. The organisers received applications from 14 low-production-capacity countries, and the best-represented format among the applicants was animated series (45%), followed by shorts (30%) and features (25%).

The selection committee exceptionally decided to accept six series projects this year, instead of the usual four. “We also received some very interesting projects from countries outside the low-production-capacity group, which we were very sad not to be able to accept due to the conditions under which our training operates in partnership with Creative Eu
