Covid-19: S wak reports 432 new cases on Tuesday (April 27), Bintulu the highest at 81

KUCHING: Sarawak reported 432 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday (April 27), with 70% detected in five central and northern districts, says the state disaster management committee. The committee said the five districts with the most cases were Bintulu with 81, Bukit Mabong (64), Miri (60), Sibu (53) and Kanowit (46). Other districts which reported cases were Selangau and Mukah with 23 each, Kuching (21), Matu (10), Julau (eight), Marudi and Sebauh (six each), Lundu (four), Sri Aman, Sarikei, Subis and Pakan (three each), Serian, Lubok Antu, Bau, Meradong and Betong (two each) and Belaga, Tatau, Beluru, Saratok and Telang Usan (one each), taking the state s tally to 28,961 cases. The committee said 246 cases were close contacts of Covid-19 patients and 128 were detected through screening of active clusters in the state.

Covid-19: Six new deaths in Sarawak including two women in their 30s

KUCHING: Two women in their 30s were among six new deaths from Covid-19 reported in Sarawak on Monday (April 26), the state s highest number of fatalities in a day to date. The state disaster management committee said a 33-year-old woman, who was brought to the Kapit Hospital after being found unconscious at home by her family, died on April 21 and confirmed positive for Covid-19 on the same day. She had comorbidities of hypertension, diabetes and obesity. Another woman aged 35, who also had obesity, died at the same hospital on April 23 after being admitted for breathing difficulties. A polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test returned positive on April 23.

Covid-19: Additional SOPs for five Sarawak divisions as cases surge

KUCHING: Additional standard operating procedures (SOP) for the conditional movement control order in five divisions in Sarawak will come into force on Wednesday (April 21), says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah. The Deputy Chief Minister said the new guidelines were recommended by Kuching, Betong, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri divisions as a circuit breaker to manage the Covid-19 pandemic. The state disaster management committee has accepted their recommendations. The updated SOP will be available on the National Security Council s website, he said at the committee s Covid-19 briefing here on Tuesday (April 20). This comes as Sarawak reported 600 new cases on Tuesday, topping the nation s list for the second day in a row.
