Marina vital to Saranac Lake livelihood | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

Dear Mr. Jorling, We are writing to express our extreme disappointment in the all-too-familiar tactic of those that don’t want to see development and progress in the Adirondacks as you, Mr. Jorling, have called it before, NIMBY (not in my backyard). NIMBY, and your tactic of just keeping swinging until they go away or go bankrupt, seem simply wrong. The people of Saranac Lake deserve better! Seven years ago when the Saranac Lake Marina first started the process of renewing the marina, it seemed the neighbors were on board for this change as the boathouses were referred to as unsafe and an eyesore. They were dilapidated and falling down. The marina has wanted to make improvements that are badly needed, and they have sought to balance environmental preservation while keeping the lake accessible to generations of families that have grown up here. Keeping the lake accessible is a vital part of doing something to help keep our town alive, or there won’t be anyone here. It seems

Marina deserves to prevail | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor: I support the Saranac Lake Marina and all the great work it has undertaken to provide an environmentally sound place for the people of Tri-Lakes enjoy our great lakes. Mr. Jorling is once again attempting to disrupt the rightful use of the lake by not only the Saranac Lake Marina but, by default, all the customers, local and tourist, who use those facilities. It is time to move on and allow the APA-, DEC- and town-approved plans to reach fruition. I can only hope that Judge Meyer can see through all these legal delaying ploys.  Sincerely,

Non-shoreowners rely on Saranac Lake Marina | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor: On Sept. 14, 2020, the Adirondack Park Agency issued a determination granting a variance and wetland permit with conditions, authorizing Saranac Lake Marina to renovate and expand its marina, located in a hamlet area on Lower Saranac Lake. The agency found that the conditions imposed would minimize the project’s impact on the environment. In fact, the agency found that the project as approved would actually improve the environment by the removal of existing boathouses along the shore, implementation of SLM’s stormwater prevention and wastewater treatment plans, and removal of milfoil from Ampersand Bay. Finally, the agency noted that the applicant could reconstruct those boathouses and add additional uncovered boat slips without this variance and permit, if it desired, as the agency would lack jurisdiction in this hamlet area. It stated that such permissible but unregulated construction would result in adverse impacts to water quality, wetlands and the shoreline.

(Enterprise photo — Glynis Hart) SARANAC LAKE The Saranac Lake Marina’s two-site dock expansion project on Lower Saranac Lake is again stalled after a lakeside resident on Ampersand Bay sued the marina and two state agencies. The suit stops construction until at least Feb. 10 and possibly until a court can determine if the state Adirondack Park Agency’s approval of the project was legal. On New Year’s Eve, Thomas Jorling, represented by Glens Falls lawyer and 2020 Assembly candidate Claudia Braymer, filed a lawsuit against the APA, the state Department of Environmental Conservation and LS Marina, LLC led by developer and owner Mike Damp and represented by Lake Placid lawyer Matthew Norfolk. This lawsuit included a restraining order halting construction.

Marina is good for the lake | News, Sports, Jobs - Adirondack Daily Enterprise

To the editor: I am writing this letter in response to information I have obtained from Mr. Mike Damp regarding a new and pending lawsuit in the form of a challenge to the approval of the LS Marina revitalization project by the Adirondack Park Agency. The lawsuit is being filed by Mr. Jorling, resident on Lower Saranac Lake in Ampersand Bay. I am a full-time resident of Lake Placid, former principal of Lake Placid Middle-High School, boat owner and member of the former Duso’s, now Saranac Lake Marina, on Lower Saranac Lake for the past 20 years. I have personally witnessed the decay of the marina over several years. Covered docks were literally falling apart and into the lake. They became too dangerous to walk on, and our boat had to be brought to the open dock so we could enjoy the lake that day. At one point, there was no mechanic or fuel for members. Cabins to the west side of the main marina in Crescent Bay were falling apart as well. It was disheartening to see this beauti
