Three suspect fraudsters were remanded in custody on Sunday after pleading not guilty to swindling a woman out of some €15,000 after luring her into a virtual romance that turned out to be a scam.   Oliver Chamberline Chibuike, a 38-year old Nigerian national living at St Paul’s Bay, fellow national 29-year-old Collins Eguavoen and Ayub Ali Khan Mohammed, a 22-year-old Indian national living in Swieqi,  were charged with various acts of money-laundering allegedly committed between January and March.  Investigators targeted the three suspects following a report by an elderly woman who claimed to have been defrauded of some €15,000 after being lured into a virtual relationship that turned out to be fake.

Tough sentence handed to drug-addicted armed robber Man behind month-long crime spree handed eight-year prison sentence   9 April 2021, 1:36pm by Matthew Agius A man from Senglea has been sentenced to nearly eight  years in prison after he admitted to a string of eleven thefts, some of them violent.  Frankie Pace, 41, stole photographic equipment, jewellery and cash from residences and garages in Marsaskala, Kalkara, Zabbar, Fgura and Zejtun as part of his month-long crime spree which ended earlier this week.  The man’s charges include theft aggravated by violence, means and value.  Inspectors Lydon Zammit, Stephen Gulia and Sarah Zerafa, told Magistrate Ian Farrugia how two women had gone to the police claiming to have been robbed at knifepoint.

Mugger jailed for four years The man pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated theft and illegal knife possession 9 April 2021, 12:37pm by Matthew Agius A man from Senglea has been jailed for four years after admitting to robbing a woman at knifepoint. 34 year-old tile layer, Joseph Brincat, pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated theft and illegal knife possession when he was arraigned this afternoon before magistrate Ian Farrugia. Inspector Lydon Zammit, prosecuting together with Inspectors Stephen Gulia and Sarah Zerafa, said that the police had been investigating a report that a weapon was used in the mugging of a foreign woman on April 4. Police discovered that one of the persons who carried out the theft was Brincat.
