Phoenix leaders from the Black Mothers Forum, NOCAP Coalition and Unity Collective said the Derek Chauvin verdict Tuesday was about accountability, and that s something they want to see more of in Arizona when it comes to policing. It took an entire year of protests; it took an entire year of making the subject matter household knowledge to bring about this one verdict. So much needs to be done, said Jacob Raiford from the NOCAP Coalition.

A gay couple in Arizona claims they were attacked at a downtown Phoenix bar on April 11 because of their sexual orientation.
An Instagram post from an account named gayprideapparel, which has since been removed, shared a video from Rudy Haro, one of the victims, saying that he and Fernando De Los Reyes Lugo had gone downtown to celebrate De Los Reyes’ birthday and their anniversary, and were “attacked by a lot of straight men tonight.” The video showed De Los Reyes with blood stains on his shirt.

A Valley couple alleges they were attacked by another customer at a downtown Phoenix bar because they are gay.
There seems to be no dispute that a fight occurred last Sunday night between customers at The Golden Margarita, but the exact details differ depending on who you ask.
The West Valley NAACP held a press conference in front of the restaurant to speak on behalf of the couple on Saturday. It s our understanding that they attended this establishment, a woman approached them, told them that they were not welcome in this bar, he didn t understand why, said Sarah Tyree, the criminal justice Chair for the West Valley NAACP. They said they were not welcome here because they were gay. One of them was then hit in the head. The fight ensued and they moved outside the bar where they were both continually assaulted by a group of men.
