Local libraries offer teens a way to earn volunteer hours by creating video explainers for their online help library.
At a coffeehouse-style open mic night for teens last month, the performers appeared to one another as tiles and the audience was invisible but present, an idea of neighbors at their screens around the region.
The teen emcees discussed how hard it has been to find and build community over the past year, peppering commentary and audience polls between performances. Self-accompanied on the guitar or to a backing track, singing or reading poems, several of the teenagers said this was their first time performing for an audience.
