The longest-running festival on the Sunshine Coast will observe its 50th anniversary this month. The Sunshine Coast Festival of the Performing Arts was founded in 1973 by the Gibsons Kiwanis Club and organized its first adjudicated performances for young artists in 1974.
The Anti-Fashion Cabaret produced by Deer Crossing the Art Farm packed the C3 Gymnasium in Gibsons on Jan. 28. The event’s centrepiece was a runway show with 15 models who displayed apparel created from repurposed textiles.
Last week, Sunshine Coast musicians Steve Wright, Joe De Leo and Nicholas Simons joined Vancouver’s Pat Haskill and New York’s Rob Sonnenberg in the city that never sleeps.
