The first time i went to the kingdom, it was in a prior job. The first call i made was to fran to say, what can you give me for advice . I would echo what fran says. Intentions, no other nation joint is an imposing the sanctions. And they have had little effect, beyond providing the cuban government for rationale for restrictions on their own people. Today, cuba is still governed by the castros and the communist party that came to power half a century ago. Neither the american north cuban people are well served by a rigid policy that is rooted in event that took place before most of us were born. Consider that for more than thirtyfive years, we have had relations wwith china a far larger country also governed by a communist party. Nearly 2 decades ago, we reestablished relations with vietnam, where we fought a war that claimed more americans than any cold war country. That is why, when i came into office, i promise to reexamine our cuban policy. As a start, we lifted restrictions for cubanamericans to travel, and sent remittances to their families and cuba.
