ITASCA COUNTY, Minn. Two people are dead and two are in serious condition after an ambulance and a dump truck collided Tuesday morning in Itasca County.
According to information from the Minnesota State Patrol, an ambulance was headed south on County Road 336 in Lawrence Township around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. A dump truck was traveling eastbound on County Road 57, and struck the ambulance on the passenger side, T-boning it.
The driver of the dump truck, 67-year old Jeffery Elvin Ekholm of Nashwauk is currently in St. Luke s Hospital in Duluth with life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The ambulance s driver, 28-year-old Kimberly Fay Hake of Cohasset also suffered life-threatening injures, and is currently hospitalized at Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The Minnesota State Patrol reported a crash at the intersection of County Roads 57 and 336 in Lawrence Township at 10:21 a.m. on Tuesday, June 8.Â
According to the State Patrol, a Meds-1 Ambulance was southbound on County Road 336. A dump truck was eastbound on County Road 57. The two vehicles collided in the intersection when the dump truck struck the ambulance on the passenger side in a T-bone style crash.
Meds-1 EMS paramedic Troy Edward Boettcher, 51, of Warba, was killed in the crash as was Joseph Michael Latimer, 17, of Grand Rapids, who was a patient in transport. Meds-1 EMS paramedic Kimberly Fay Hake, 28, of Cohasset, was driving the ambulance and sustained life-threatening injuries. Hake was transported to Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital and later life-flighted out.Â

A procession of ambulances, fire trucks and police cars was making its way from Grand Rapids, Minn. to Anoka Wednesday morning to honor a paramedic who was killed in a crash at the same Itasca County intersection where a DNR conservation officer was killed two weeks ago.
The ambulance the paramedic was riding in collided with a dump truck about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of County Roads 57 and 336 in Lawrence Township, about 20 miles west of Grand Rapids, the State Patrol said. A patient in the ambulance also died in the crash.
