Oscar Knight and Jye Boehme are among students getting a taste of different trades as part of a new school-based traineeship pilot program to be rolled out across NSW.
For Oscar, 17, the opportunity to work for a construction company and potentially get an apprenticeship has provided a big incentive to staying on to complete year 12 at South Grafton High School in the stateâs north.
âI like the experience and I get to do hands-on work,â he said. âEvery time I go there, I learn something new. I want to get full-time work out of it. Maybe in carpentry. Thatâs my goal.â
