It's 1957 and in the small town of Frome, Washington, teen Sarah Dewhurst's life is about to get really strange. She and her father have been struggling to keep the family farm afloat, but the work required to do so has become too much for just two people. Nevertheless, Sarah can't help but be surprised when her father hires a dragon to help clear their fields. The dragon, Kazimir, is different from the other dragons typically hired to help out on farms. This dragon is a Russian Blue, a breed rarely seen in the United States, and with the Cold War in full effect, a dragon with Russian heritage is regarded with suspicious scrutiny. This dragon also seems to have taken a specific interest in Sarah.

J J Abrams developing TV adaptation of Patrick Ness dragon fantasy novel Burn

Burn, the new fantasy novel from author Patrick Ness. As per Amazon, here’s the plot description for the book: On a cold Sunday evening in early 1957, Sarah Dewhurst waited with her father in the parking lot of the Chevron gas station for the dragon he’d hired to help on the farm… Sarah Dewhurst and her father, outcasts in their little town of Frome, Washington, are forced to hire a dragon to work their farm, something only the poorest of the poor ever have to resort to. The dragon, Kazimir, has more to him than meets the eye, though. Sarah can’t help but be curious about him, an animal who supposedly doesn’t have a soul but who is seemingly intent on keeping her safe.
