Incline Village residents give feedback on mobility hub

lgriffo@tahoedailytribune.com INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. Many Incline Village residents shared their opinions on a possible mobility hub over the past month. The proposed mobility hub could possibly be constructed at the old elementary school site, although the Tahoe Transportation District said they are open to considering other locations. However, many residents spoke out saying they felt they weren’t being included in the process and TTD was acting in secrecy. For the past month, TTD has hosted four workshops which were meant to inform residents about the possible project. On Friday, March 5, TTD board members Alexis Hill, also a Washoe County commissioner, and Andy Chapman along with Executive Director Carl Hasty hosted a listening session.

Washoe commissioners approve 1st reading of short-term rental ordinance

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. The Washoe County Commission approved the first reading of a short-term rental ordinance, over a year after it was first introduced to the commission. The ordinance covers STRs in the unincorporated areas of Washoe County, and nearly 90% of them are in Incline Village and Crystal Bay. The ordinance was brought to the board in Feb. 2020 and at that time, the commission said several changes needed to be made before approving it. Since then, Incline Village residents have been reaching out to county staff with the list of things they’d like to see in the ordinance. When drafting the ordinance, county staff adopted the mission statement to, “adopt simple, fair and enforceable regulations for STRs that balance competing interests and maximize voluntary compliance.”

IVGID approves legal contract; receives beach access update

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. The Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees moved forward with a contract for legal counsel with Best, Best & Krieger during Wednesday’s meeting. With the district’s history of being involved with lawsuits and that some residents have questioned the job the previous attorney had done, getting a good contract with BB&K was important for the district. Josh Nelson with BB&K has been providing legal counsel to the board over the last year on a short-term contract. The new contract extends that for three years. During the board’s Dec. 9 meeting, the board asked the contract to be reviewed by outside legal counsel.

IVGID trustee Wong addresses exodus of district staff

lgriffo@tahoedailytribune.com INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. Incline Village General Improvement District Trustee Kendra Wong gave an emotional statement in defense of district staff during Wednesday’s board meeting. There has been an exodus of staff over the last few months, most recently with the unexpected resignation of the head of human resources, Dee Carey. “Staff are leaving because they don’t feel supported by the board,” Wong said. Wong added that it’s not the fault of General Manager Indra Winquest, who she said the staff enjoy working for. Instead, she directly named Trustee Sara Schmitz, members of the audit committee and to a lesser extent Vice Chair Matthew Dent. Chair Tim Callicrate told her to stay away from directly naming people and said her point had been made.

IVGID to discuss possible utility rate increase

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. The Incline Village General Improvement District Board of Trustees on Wednesday will reconsider the utility rate increase they deferred last year due to COVID-19. The district’s 2020 Utility Rate Study recommended a utility rate increase of 5.5% which the board approved in Feb. 2020. However, a public hearing had to be held to finalize the increase which was scheduled for April, after stay-at-home orders were put in place because of the pandemic. For that reason, the board decided to defer the rate increase. The adjusted budget for 2020/21 with the increase removed showed a difference of $708,000. Now, the board must decide how to proceed with the utility rate for fiscal year 2021/22. Options include moving forward with 5.5% increase which would need to be approved after a public hearing. If approved, it would go into effect on April 19, 2021.
