(Contributed photo by Shelly Mosman) Everyone’s had the blues lately, but no one can sing about them like Rochester’s queen of blues. On her latest five-track EP, Annie Mack brings a whole new mix of rock, country and gospel while keeping her trademark gut-wrenching vocals. Testify will be released Friday, Jan. 29. “Testify” follows her 2013 album, “Baptized in the Blues,” and her 2017 EP, “Tell It Like It Is.” For “Testify,” Mack tried her hand at co-producing with Matt Patrick, who’s worked with artists like Cory Wong and Reina del Cid.

Annie Mack s new EP, Testify, is a salve to the chaos of the day

Copy shortlink: It should come as no surprise that it took Annie Mack a little longer than most singers to, as she put it, finally find my voice and realize I was worth hearing. When she was 10 years old and put into an orphanage in Minneapolis after a family tragedy, she wasn t speaking at all. She now thinks she suffered from a condition known as selective mutism. I remember the intake women there. A Black woman took me and combed my hair for me as I sat there all quiet, Mack recalled of her arrival at St. Joseph s Home for Children. That s when the kindness started.
