March is Women’s History Month and a time to celebrate the impact of women on American society and culture throughout history. This year, to celebrate the achievements of women in the Harrisonburg community, consider visiting a local female-owned business. The Shenandoah Valley is full of hidden gems and local favorites, one can find anything from family-owned shops to businesses promoting women’s empowerment and individuality.  First opened in 2012 as a food truck, Grilled Cheese Mania quickly gained a following in the valley. Known by most as the “Grilled Cheese Lady,” Kathleen Mania-Casey has since opened a permanent indoor location on Main Street. The store has an assortment of grilled cheese sandwiches, soups, drinks, dipping sauces and sweets.

New COVID case rate declines in Yates County John Christensen Four more deaths recorded, all in long term care PENN YAN – Since the week prior with over 150 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Yates County, the number of new cases has decreased to 115, dropping the 7-day positivity rate to 8.4%. In Monday, Jan. 11’s report, Deputy Director Sara Christensen stated they had received 53 new cases. “Of the new cases, 31 are close contacts of previous positive cases, six are associated with long term care, two are Penn Yan Central School District students, and two are Marcus Whitman Central School District students,” said Christensen.
