jeffrey, one of the things that distinguishes iowa, ground game is important, maybe not as in future primaries because t y they how the caucus system works. one of your big knocks on mr. trump is the ground game. he hasn t put together a message for these states. i do think it s relevant and i do think they re at it. they have chuck lauder in who produced the santorum win in 2012 who really knows the state very well. he knows how to do this. they re doing very well. the one thing i would caution, chris, no matter who wins iowa, john mccain, for example, came in fifth in 2000 and yet managed to become george w. s main opponent, beating him in new hampshire. ronald reagan lost, et cetera. whoever wins, there s still more primaries to come. so, you know, the buildup, no matter who ones, you have to be careful with it.
over the edge last time, too. they know iowa and have boots on the ground and ready to fight it out. whether or not it s enough to take over cruz remains to be seen. as for new hampshire, not quite as clear and their campaign manager is from new hampshire. he knows the voters there and he s led a number of came pains, not successfully, but previously in new hampshire so donald trump is not behind the ball here when it comes to boots on the ground and what he is able to do in these two early states. it just remanes to be seen who actually shows up to vote and talking about people who have not voted in the past, then i think donald trump has an advantage, especially when it comes to iowa according to a number of polls. katy tur, following the trump campaign, reporting in massachusetts, thank you very much. now more on donald trump and team clinton, nbc news senior political editor mark mu rray. we have andrea mitchell getting to bill clinton on the rope line
and now, there are whispers of a budding anti-cruz, pro-rubio alliance out in iowa. cruz is leading in polls there, the national review online reports that some supporters of huckabee and santorum, some of them think cruz is pandering to eampt evangelical voters, looking towards the general election, rubio has gathered 19 endorsements from members of congress, second only to jeb bush, among them well respected conservatives, like darrell issa and trey gowdy. he joined him on the trail today. rubio has racked up three endorsements from senators, including cory gardner in colorado, a nod to the next generation of republicans is a point that marco rubio stresses on the campaign trail. we can t afford four more years like the last eight. that s why hillary clinton cannot win this election. and by the way, this is why we can t afford to elect just any
governance would be, you know, acts of legislative malfeasance would be punished and that proved not to be true after the government shutdown of 2013. the most recent one is this notion that this kind of time war notion, it would appear that republicans ultimately will nominate somebody who will stand on their record. in fact, the language seems to be precisely the opposite. john kasich has been running on his record and getting nowhere as a result. you think back to 2012 and mitt romney ultimately got through the process, but there was that block of the party that seemed to want anybody but romney. they were with gingrich for a while, santorum, jumping around, they didn t want to get on board. they weren t enough to stop him, though. s had th has that portion of the party, the anybody but the establishment candidate wing grown large enough that they
isn t that a little ding. huckabee won iowa, look what happened. santorum won iowa, look what happened? pat robertson won iowa, look what happened? does it matter. he will take on new hampshire, south carolina and man, oh, man, what can happen then. right. i think that is a very good point. to put everything in perspective the combined delegates allocated from iowa and new hampshire are 53. you need 1237 to secure the nomination. that is 53 compared to say super tuesday headlined by florida, ohio and illinois, which is winner-take-all day where there are 353 delegates at stake. so, it feeds into narrative, eric, trump has successfully throwing out there. that he is the head mo that will be hard to stop. if he is stopped anywhere, at least it creates great storylines, put as great amount of pressure on trump not just the new hampshire primary on the
