A poll for the ITV News Tonight programme, in partnership with Santanta ComRes, revealed four in ten (39 percent) of the Welsh population are now in favour of independence from the rest of the UK. The top reason for wanting to split was the view that Wales has different social attitudes compared to the other three devolved nations (53 percent). Other reasons cited for Welsh independence included feeling that the country is historically a separate nation (51 percent), and the belief it would fare better if it was independent (46 percent).
