MIDDLETOWN As the city endured its fourth day of intense heat and high humidity Wednesday, children enjoyed fire hydrants spraying cold relief right outside their doors.
By late afternoon, temperatures soared to 96 degrees, with a heat index of 99 at Meriden Markham Municipal Airport, according to the National Weather Service.
In many of these locations, residents lack easy access to local swimming areas, which include Wadsworth Falls State Park, Crystal Lake and Veterans Memorial Pool.
