The Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors unanimously ratified a local emergency that was declared by senior county staff Jan. 3 in response to a pair of storms that slammed the coastline Dec. 28 and Dec. 30.
The boards' approval of the resolutions allows for state and federal financial assistance to be made available for both counties to help with the costs of repairing storm damage.

According to the agenda report submitted by county staff, initial countywide damage estimates from storm events on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 amount to more than $1.5 million. That is well above the estimated $1.2 million county threshold for state funding support as specified in the California Disaster Assistance Act.
