The city of Santa Cruz is seeking the public's feedback on its latest draft of the housing element update, a document that guides the development of housing projects throughout the city for the next eight years. The recent set of revisions came with feedback from the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
A local business owner and his partner are contesting the potential removal of a 120-foot-tall coast redwood tree on Walnut Avenue in Santa Cruz. The decision whether to keep or remove the tree was postponed by the Santa Cruz City Council and will be decided in December.
"Santa Cruz has changed. Things change, like it or not. Change can be fruitful and sustaining," writes Steve Bare in a Guest Commentary. "But change can also be destructive and ill-conceived. Change can be good for all, or change can be good for the few only."
At its meeting Tuesday, the Santa Cruz City Council approved numerous changes to the city’s downtown plan document, addressed its budgets woes and started the process to examine the impacts of the Housing for People initiative.
