Three months after the San Francisco 49ers last played in Levi’s Stadium, the team is joining with Santa Clara County to turn the 68,500-seat facility into California’s largest vaccination site.
Workers initially will be able to vaccinate 5,000 county residents per day when the venue opens next week. But capacity could rise as high as 15,000 people per day as vaccine supplies increase.
Across the Bay Area, sports stadiums and conference centers are being transformed into vaccination sites. San Francisco’s Moscone Center opened for vaccinations on Friday, and the federal government plans to open the Oakland Coliseum on Feb. 16 to provide up to 6,000 shots a day and will be sending active-duty troops to California to assist with mass vaccinations.
