His biography of pio pico, was made with great resourcefulness. This challenges the paradigm of the decline of the californias which that experience has often been interpreted, drawing a connection between the battles fought by californians and mexicans. He challenges the images that many of us have of californians. Like many other early mexican settlers, pio pico was of african descent. This continued to surprise our guests. They just were not aware of the early african roots of california. This is an aspect of our history thats worthy of much greater interest in exploration, and im so honored and pleased that dr.
