Crews respond to fast-moving brush fire near Lake Casitas Gretchen Wenner, Ventura County Star

A brush fire that broke out near Lake Casitas Monday afternoon grew to 188 acres and prompted evacuation orders for several properties.
By early evening, however, firefighters appeared to have gained the upper hand. By 9:30 p.m., all evacuations and road closures had been lifted on the fire. Crews were expected to monitor the fire overnight.

Brush fire breaks out near Lake Casitas

A fast-moving brush fire broke out near Lake Casitas Monday afternoon.

Firefighters are on scene of a two-alarm brush fire near Lake Casitas.
The fire, the “Casitas Incident,” was reported at 3:47 p.m. near Casitas Pass Road and Santa Ana Road. Fire crews on their way to the fire reported seeing a large head of smoke.
The fire was quickly upgraded to a second alarm.
The fire was burning in light to medium fuels, but no structures were immediately threatened, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
One dead in crash near Lake Casitas
One person was found dead at the scene of a traffic accident near Lake Casitas Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported around 3:10 p.m. west of the intersection of Highway 150 and Santa Ana Road, according to Ventura County Fire Department and California Highway Patrol reports. The site is near the entrance to the lake and recreation area.
Fire crews arriving on scene described finding a single vehicle over the side with severe damage. Incoming units were initially advised to continue in with lights and sirens and a helicopter crew had been dispatched. Shortly before 3:30 p.m., the helicopter was called off when firefighters reported that the patient had died.
Authorities closed down Ventura Avenue in Casitas Springs after a brush fire broke out late Thursday morning, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.
The fire was first reported at 11:19 a.m. in the area of Santa Ana Road and Nye Ranch Fire Road.
Ventura Avenue was closed between Ranch Road and Sycamore Drive for authorities to respond to the fire, which reached approximately 1 acre in size, authorities said.
The fire s spread was stopped by 12:09 p.m., according to Capt. Brian McGrath, a spokesman for the Ventura County Fire Department. Fire crews were expected to remain on scene for at least four hours to ensure the blaze was fully extinguished.
