Ram, Sheep Married In Chittoor As Part Of Ancient Sankranti Ritual Jan 18, 2021, 17:32 IST CHITTOOR: As per an ancient ritual after Sankranti, a sheep and ram were married off in Kuravapalle village, Gyrampalle panchayat at KCPalle mandal in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, on Sunday night. As per this Sankranti tradition, the marriage of the two animals are conducted two days after Sankranti ends which is a customary ritual since ages. The animals are beautifully decorated like a bride and groom. At first special pujas are performed for Doddi Gangamma. Followed by lighting of special lamps and the Goddess Gouramma is worshiped. After invoking the Gods the ram and sheep are then married with an intent of seeking the prosperity of the village and its people.

Jan 15, 2021, 10:42 IST GUNTUR: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will participate in Kamadhenu Gopuja or the worship of cows on  the occasion of Kanuma today, at the Municipal Stadium in Narasaraopeta in Guntur district. As per tradition, cows are worshipped after the Sankranti day. The event is being organised by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam or TTD and the State Endowments Department at Narasaraopeta in Guntur district. Earlier State Home Minister Sucharitha, MP Krishna Devarayalu, MLA Srinivasa Reddy and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam executives AV Dharma Reddy and P Basanth Kumar inspected the Grounds at Narasaraopet where the Gopuja will be conducted by the temple trust.

Devotees Witness Divine Makara Jyothi On Makaravilakku 2021 Jan 14, 2021, 20:29 IST SABARIMALA: Hundreds of devotees on the auspicious occasion of Makaravilakku , witnessed the makara jyothi on the hill, marking the culmination of the two-month-long pilgrimage in the famous Lord Ayyappa temple in Sabarimala in Kerala. Strict COVID-19 protocols were in place this time and the number of devotees were limited to a few thousands unlike the usual rush. As per the government directive, only 5,000 pilgrims were permitted to climb the holy hills to offer prayers on the day, Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) officials here said. Wearing face masks and carrying the customary irumudikettu (the traditional bundle a devotee brings to the shrine) over their heads, devotees gathered at the temple complex to have a glimpse of Lord Ayyappa, the presiding deity in the evening.
