J&K Govt Signs MoU With NAFED For High Density Apple, Walnut, Cherry Plantation
SRINAGAR: In an important step towards the promotion of Horticulture produce of Jammu & Kashmir and to take it to the global market, the J&K Government today signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED), apex organization of marketing cooperatives for agricultural produce in the country.

NEW DELHI, Jan 1: In an important step towards the promotion of horticulture produce of Jammu & Kashmir and to take it to the global market, the J&K Government today signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd. (NAFED), apex organization of marketing cooperatives for agricultural produce in the country.
The MoU with NAFED is seen as a game changer for the Horticulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir. High Density plantation of Apple, Walnut, Cherry, Flowers etc has potential to increase the income of farmers by 3 to 4 times.

Several of Nafed staff members including their MD Sanjeev Kumar Chadha were given cash awards along with citations. The Nafed Board which sat just before the AGM recommended a cash award of Rs 51 lacs to MD Chadha.
Recounting the MD’s contribution in resurrecting Nafed from deathbed, its Chairman Bijender Singh lauded his role.
Raghuvansi, one of the former Nafed Directors from Madhya Pradesh was also felicitated for retrieving nine acres of Nafed land from encroachers. He also received a cheque of Rs 1 lakh.
