New Delhi: All 100 samples taken from the Ghazipur poultry mandi, Asia s largest chicken market, have tested negative for bird flu, officials said on Thursday.
The results come three days after samples taken from crows and ducks in the national capital tested positive for avian influenza. This had led to the Delhi government on Monday banning the sale of processed and packaged chicken brought from outside the city.
The government had also shut down the poultry market for 10 days as a precautionary measure.

Bird flu has not spread among chickens in Delhi, an official said on Thursday after all the 100 samples taken from Asia s largest poultry market in Ghazipur tested negative, following which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal ordered opening of the mandi while all the three municipal corporations in Delhi lifted the ban imposed on sale, storage of poultry or processed chicken meat. Welcoming the Delhi government and civic authorities decision, Union Animal Husbandry Minister Giriraj Singh said that Delhi government s decision to open Ghazipur poultry market will send a positive message throughout the country. Earlier, samples taken from crows and ducks at parks and lakes in the national capital tested positive for the avian influenza.

The animal husbandry unit of the Delhi government has said they have not found any evidence of bird flu at the Ghazipur poultry unit. Officials said the 100 samples that were sent from the poultry unit to Jalandhar for testing were found to be negative for bird flu.

New Delhi, Jan 14: All three municipal corporations in Delhi on Thursday lifted the ban imposed on sale, storage of poultry or processed chicken meat after samples taken from markets tested negative for bird flu, officials said.
East Delhi Mayor Nirmal Jain said the decision was taken during an online meeting held in the evening, chaired by Union minister Giriraj Singh, which was also attended by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, two other mayors and the commissioners of the three corporations.
