Durban riots latest: R15 billion damage, 129 000 jobs at risk
A preliminary estimate of the economic impact of the ongoing riots in Durban has revealed that 40 000 businesses have been affected.
eThekwini Municipality has incurred R15 billion damage to property and equipment and R1 billion loss of stock due to the riots and looting across the city this week.

• 55 000 informal traders affected.
• 40 000 formal businesses impacted including small businesses, and a large portion of those may never recover.
