Often, I would watch an emaciated Younas jump into a dark, grimy sewer armed with nothing but a wooden stick. All he had were his bare hands to protect him. When Younas fell ill, his family did not have enough money to get him proper medical care. When he died, they didn’t have enough for his burial.

This decision has evoked criticism from a section of health workers. Since April, all health workers of GRH - including doctors, nurses and sanitary workers - were accommodated at various hotels across the city during their quarantine leave. However, the decision to discontinue the facility was taken due to shortage of funds with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, say senior health department officials.
