There was tension at Tunga Maje village, near Zuba, in the Federal Capital Territory when gunmen stormed a hotel and abducted about six guests and the owner of the hotel.
The guests, whose names were given as Hon. Friday Sani Makama, Prince Frederick Adejoh and others yet to be identified, were taken away in a commando style from the Hilltop Hotel, where they lodged in the early hours of Thursday.
Makama, who is said to be a former lawmaker in the Kogi State House of Assembly, recently defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, while Prince Adejoh is the Oma Onu Aya of Igalaland.
Hon. Friday Sani Makama, a former lawmaker in Kogi, was said to be among the abducted guests but Daily Trust cannot independently verify the claim.
Tunga Maje is one of the Abuja communities that has recorded multiple attacks in the current wave of insecurity in the nation’s capital.
The kidnappers are yet to contact the family members of the victims or their friends but the police said they are on their trail.
Police spokesperson in the FCT, ASP Mariam Yusuf, confirmed the incident but did not go into details.
“The command has launched a strategic operation to rescue the victims unhurt,” she said.
