Service delivery protests in parts of KwaZulu-Natal this week coincided with the first anniversary of the July riots. In Howick, protests signalled rising tensions between the ANC and the DA-run uMngeni municipality over electricity provision.
Some people may scoff at the small scale of the interventions made by places such as Sani Lodge Backpackers in its efforts to advance fair trade tourism. But transformation is a mindset. It starts in your own backyard. It begins with small actions rather than large polemics.

It’s a weekend for winter woolies inland and rain gear on the coast. However, for snow, one will have to cross the border into Lesotho, according to Wiseman Dlamini, a weather forecaster for the SA Weather Service.
He said that tomorrow the mercury is expected to drop to -4°C in Underberg but could go up to 15 later in the day. Today the minimum is expected to be only one degree higher.
On the coast, there will be a 60% chance of showers today and tomorrow. Maximum temperatures will be in the early 20s. Inland, a 30% chance of rain is expected.
