SANFORD, Maine – You might have driven through large billows of smoke if you passed the Acton Public Safety Building on Route 109 on Tuesday afternoon. You may have even glimpsed flames spreading through a large patch of dry leaves and brush.
No need to worry. Everything was under control.
Fire Science students from Sanford Regional Technical Center and their instructor, Capt. Harold Smith, were on the scene and knew exactly what they were doing.
That drill on Tuesday is just one aspect of Smith’s fire science course, and it s just one example why the Sanford-Springvale Call Firefighters recently saw fit to donate $28,000 to the program.
