american, paul whelan at. we ll get to those stories in this hour. but we start with a big breakthrough in democrats efforts to pass a main part of president biden s agenda. prescription drug prices, taxes, and climate change. kirsten sinema of arizona has announced her support for the bill, calling it the inflation redact act. clearing the way possibly this weekend. the democrat agreed on some changes. including dropping a carry over interest rate tax. increase on some of the risk just of the rich. hedge fund, and private company executives. and changes to a 15% on corporate tax obligations. they could make amendments, but this film could be seen as historic changes for everyday americans. change is very popular according to a poll, by cutting prescription prices and refusing the deficit by 300 billion dollars. you heard that right. it would also invest in nearly 370 billion dollars to address climate change. and also, it would be interesting to think about it from a politic

night in america where democracy was on the ballot. first a stunning rejection by voters in conservative kansas. voters defeating an amendment aimed at restricting abortion rights and the result wasn t close. kansas is the first state to vote on the issue since the supreme court decision to overturn roe v. wade. perhaps even more significant was the voter turnout here because nearly 700,000 votes were cast in tuesday s primary and that dwarfs the voter turnout in the state s 2020 presidential primary election. five states in all held primaries on tuesday, one other big take away here was a slue of election deniers backed by former president trump, they were winners. and here to break down the numbers is cnn s senior data analyst harry enten. hey, john. good morning. what we got? let s start in kansas which brianna was just talking b my goodness gracious, sometimes i get surprised by results and this is one of them. i did expect that no would win, that is that they w

threatening. spaces online and real life where conservatives feel they get shut down for voicing unpopular views and where political correctness and wokeness force them to walk on pins and needles or just keep quiet for fear of getting cancelled. to put it mildly they don t like safe spaces, okay, they really, really hate them, but what s happened on the right and specifically inside the republican party in the last couple of decades is that their sense of victimhood and frankly fear and rage at an increasingly diverse country where they aren t automatically at center of everything, where other communities have gotten a chance to be focused on, like hollywood and books and in the culture and have elected political leaders who look like them, president obama, kamala harris and the guy recruited on to the bad list for being associated with both of them, joe biden. their anger has frankly corroded into something more like hate. to the point where they, even as the my north. only

and we do begin in uvalde, texas, a community still very much in mourning beset by grief after a massacre that left 19 students and two teachers dead. you see them there, a long line of mourners laying flowers at a memorial set up outside robb elementary school. outrage is growing over why a group of law enforcement officers waited so long to rush the gunman. we have seen a mix of emotions, anger, frustration and disappointment after that 911 call timeline became more clear. but folks have wrapped their arms around the folks of uvalde and its community. i ve seen long lines like that for folks waiting to purchase concert tickets or receive free food or other items. but these people are not waiting in line in the oppressive heat to get something, they re here to give and show their support. many have traveled from fear and beyond. i talked to a person from el paso. some people traveled from san antonio, which is about 85 miles away to lay flowers, balloons and stuffed animal

speak louder than words can that on tuesday at rob elementary school in uvalde texas, this first priority for every single law enforcement officer in the state did not come first. the awful truth which was confirmed today is that police officers waited to storm a classroom while children were hiding inside and calling 911 for help that would not come. for as long as an hour. now we often here police officers talk about split second decisions. this time, the decision to go into a classroom and confront the shooter took 3,600 of those seconds. a full hour. a bit of hindsight from where i m sitting now, of course it s not a right decision. it was a wrong decision. very. no excuse for that. but again, i wasn t there. i m just telling you from what we know, we believe there should have been an entry there as soon as you can. that s steven mcgraw, director of the texas department public safety with the bottom line, different from what we ve been hearing all week long, different
