Working people want action on employment rights – TUC

THE government must “stop dithering” and deliver on its promises to boost employment rights, the TUC said yesterday as a new poll revealed that Britain’s workers want urgent action. On the eve of International Workers’ Day, the union confederation published a survey showing that a huge majority of working people want the same basic rights for all  and that most want an end to the scourge of zero-hours contracts. The poll of more than 2,500 workers, carried out for the TUC by GQR Research, suggests that 84 per cent want to see a raft of basic rights applied to all. Many workers, especially in the gig economy, are not covered even by the limited existing safeguards such as minimum notice periods, protection against unfair dismissal and the right to request flexible working.

CP calls for solidarity with trade unionists amid a wave of industrial action

THE Communist Party has called for solidarity with trade unionists across Britain who are preparing for a wave of industrial action. Speaking to the party’s political committee on Wednesday evening, CP trade union organiser Andy Bain praised the determination of British Gas employees, London hospital staff and bus drivers, ScotRail and others to defend pay, conditions and health and safety standards at work. Mr Bain said: “This reflects the growing realisation that employers and their Tory government are using the Covid-19 crisis as an opportunity to attack people’s rights and living standards.” He also called for support for the national demonstration called by the People’s Assembly for June 26 in central London but cautioned that any mass mobilisation should be conditional on Covid-19 safety.

He's a mayor and Wine Country 'prince.' Four women say he sexually assaulted them

Updated: April 8, 2021 4:01 a.m. In the summer of 2019, Rose Fumoso left her home in southern France to intern at a Sonoma County winery, where the 21-year-old greeted customers in the tasting room and assessed the ripeness of grapes from the vineyard. As the season wound down in September, a friend invited Fumoso to a party celebrating the end of harvest. There, she met the host: Dominic Foppoli, the mayor of Windsor. A small town in the heart of Wine Country, Windsor has transformed in recent years from a sleepy neighbor of Healdsburg to a tourist destination. Much of that rise has been credited to Foppoli, a young winery owner whose political star and push for development have attracted outside investments in the community.

Thomas Metevia, Digital Content Producer, Orlando Published:  Updated:  Tags:  One Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan is taking his love for the team to new heights. Sarasota’s own Rick Clark has been a season ticket member since 2013 and has been a life-long Bucs fan. Recently he raised his Bucs flag 19,341 feet after summiting Mount Kilimanjaro. “The #RaiseTheFlags was all about showing your Bucs pride from wherever you were, and I thought what better place to raise it and show my love for my team than halfway around the world at the top of Africa,” Clark told reporters in Tampa.
