Work Underway On Glass Town Public Art Display

Large Mason jars, five-gallon buckets and plastic containers were spread out across a wooden table in glass artist Michael J. Magyar’s East Sandwich studio. The containers were filled with Sandwich history: chunks and shards of old glass from the Boston & Sandwich Glass Factory. Mr. Magyar empties one of the buckets into a metal tray and begins spraying the glass with water. He reaches in and picks up one foggy piece, and notes some of the imperfections that he says are bits of the factor floor. A selection of the pieces—the ones that still hold their colors, patterns and shapes—are destined to become part of a public art display that Mr. Maguire was selected to create and install near the Dexter Grist Mill, next door to Sandwich Town Hall.

Sandwich committee votes in favor of demolishing State Street home Again

“It is clear that there are people who want to see this house restored and preserved,” said Mary Foley, who chairs the Historic District Committee, said at the committee s April 28 hearing. But restoring the property, she said, would require thousands of dollars and be a unique hardship for the property owner. “I just think we are going to keep going back and forth, back and forth,” she added.  Last week s meeting marked the third time Albert and Patricia DiMascio, who own the home at 18 State St., have come before the committee seeking demolition.  The committee first voted to demolish the home in November, but that vote was annulled due to technical difficulties on Zoom that omitted some public comment. The board reconvened in January and again voted in favor of demolition.
