Police responded to a report of shots fired on the 1800-block of Park Avenue around 3:40 a.m. Sunday. Officers found 65-year-old Gary Braxton with a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Neighbor Arthur Palmer says he knew Braxton. “He was always the same. He didn’t raise his voice, didn’t show no kind of violence. He was just an ordinary, happy man,” said Palmer.

Lynchburg teachers get creative with new programs, opportunities amid pandemic

Sandusky Middle School band director Kenneth Brand has come to find thereâs a podcast about pretty much anything. âI ask my students all the time, âWhat are you interested in?ââ Brand said. âAnd I tell them, âThereâs a podcast about it.ââ While a lot has been different and challenging in schools this year with the COVID-19 pandemic, Brand didnât let the pandemic stop him from creating a new, unique opportunity for students at the school. Instead, he started a podcasting class. Despite the challenging effects the COVID-19 pandemic has had on education, teachers and staff in Lynchburg City Schools are working to create unique opportunities and programs for their students and schools.
