South Africa’s public basic education system is one of the most dysfunctional in the world and the destructive centralisation contemplated in the proposed BELA Bill is certainly counterproductive.
The deteriorating infrastructure and the absence of reform means South Africa will struggle to grow and create jobs. All this must lead to further economic decline but could also lay the way open to the ANC’s eviction at the polls.
We need to redouble our efforts to explain the evils not only of socialism, but also of state-capitalism, cronyism, big government and inflationary monetary policy.
