Wild Edibles Hike

What does a dandelion salad taste like? Would you like to find out? Join us at Sandhill Wildlife Area, where expert botanist Jessica Prindiville will lead a search for all the wild edibles Sandhill has to offer. She will lead us in a short classroom discussion to learn the basics, followed by a guided hike to look for our potential lunch. But bring a lunch as well along with a water bottle and bug spray. Meet in the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. Class is limited to 25 participants. Preregistration is required before May 17th along with a $10 registration fee per person.

Dutch Oven Cooking Workshop

Great food makes any outdoor experience better! A Dutch oven is a great tool for campers, hunters, fishers, and anyone else looking to make delicious meals just about anywhere. Join Laura Huber and practice using a Dutch oven as we learn about equipment, equipment care, fire-building, cooking techniques, recipes, and more. We’ll cook around the campfire and enjoy a delicious meal together. You’ll walk away ready to “wow” your friends on your next outdoor adventure. Deer Ecology and Shed Antler Hunt

Want to find your next big trophy? Help us welcome Wisconsin DNR Wildlife Technician Liam Stevens as we explore Sandhill to hunt for deer antler sheds. We will have a brief introduction to deer ecology followed by a tour of deer habitat and active management on the property. Afterward, we will partake in our antler hunt throughout the property in search of the large trophies. Meet in the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. Class is limited to 20 participants. Preregistration is required before March 22nd along with a $15 registration fee per person.

Wildlife Research and Telemetry Workshop

Have you ever wondered how we do wildlife research at Sandhill? Join us as we welcome UW-Madison Graduate students and technicians currently doing research on Sandhill Wildlife Area. We will have a brief discussion on what goes into conducting wildlife research and the techniques used to track animals in the field. Test your skills afterwards and learn the art of telemetry by tracking a live grouse! Meet in the Sandhill Outdoor Skills Center. Class is limited to 25 participants. Preregistration is required before March 8th along with a $10 registration fee per person.
