Climate change in Florida creates job of chief heat officer in Miami

South Florida is heading for a hot future Scientists predict that without significant reductions in the production of greenhouse gases over the next few decades, South Florida will see about 30 more extreme-heat days per year, days when the temperatures feel above 105 degrees.  Being exposed to extreme heat without sufficient hydration puts outdoor workers and pregnant women at risk. It is also associated with elevated cardiovascular and respiratory-related deaths for older people. So it was probably just a matter of time before somebody thought of putting a public official in charge of doing something about the heat. And if this turns out to be like most government bureaucracies, it will only grow, and create new jobs with new acronyms.
