Dr. Martin Brotman, Gastroenterologist And Former Cpmc President, Dies At Age 81

Dr. Martin Brotman, former president and CEO of California Pacific Medical Center, died Dec. 20, at age 81. A resident of the San Francisco Bay Area for 53 years, Brotman was the driving force behind the creation of Sutter Health s new one-million-square-foot Van Ness campus hospital and adjacent medical building, which opened in 2019.
Born on June 26, 1939, in Winnipeg, Canada, to Helen and Israel Brotman, Martin Brotman met Farron Stern, at the age of 14. The couple married on Aug. 14, 1960, when Brotman was 21 years old, and welcomed daughter Ilana in 1963, son Stuart in 1966, and daughter Brenley in 1968.
