We live in unprecedented times in the first pandemic in a century in a time of exceptional scientific achievement in a time of ultramodern mRNA vaccines that will revolutionize health for all manner of disease in an age of dramatic change in communication that will alter civilization.
The pandemic forced us to do things that we knew we should, but couldn’t bring ourselves to do in normal times. Here is an example. In 2006, I traveled to Honduras to provide medical care and improve public health. Our sponsor was Sociedad Amigos de los Niños, led by the late Sister Maria Rosa Leggol, the “Mother Teresa of Central America.” Sister Maria Rosa encouraged us to help communities develop their own leaders to provide public health measures like immunizations, first aid and water sanitation.
