Jamaican Olympian Dennis Johnson, who equalled the 100 yards world record of 9.3sec four times in 1961, has died aged 81 after being admitted to hospital with COVID-19.
Johnson, a former director of sports at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), was born in 1939 and gained his college education at San Jose State College in the United States, where he was coached by the legendary sprint coach Bud Winter and was a member of the San Jose State Spartans track team.
It was while he was with San Jose State University in 1961 that he equalled the 100y world record, first set by America s Mel Patton in 1948, the year he went on to win 200 metres and 4x100 metres gold at the London Olympics.

Jamaican Olympian and track and field legend Dennis Johnson, who equalled the world record of 9.3 seconds over 100 yards in 1961, died on Thursday night at the age of 81.
Johnson was recently admitted to the hospital after contracting the coronavirus disease. He was a former director of sports at the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).
Johnson, who was born in 1939, gained his college education at San Jose State College in the USA where he was coached by the legendary sprint coach Bud Winter. He was a member of the San Jose State Spartans track team.

Born into an International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees family, Wally learned many aspects of the stage from his father and kept up his membership and theatrical skills even during the 20 years of practice as a therapist.

Dr. Sheldon Wettack, 82, of Holland, MI passed away on February 25, 2021, following a short illness and surrounded by the love of his family.
Sheldon Wettack was born on December 5, 1938, in Coffeyville, KS to Frank Sheldon Wettack II and Elizabeth (Gardner) Wettack. Having been raised in a military family, his formative years included living in Japan. The family then settled in Manteca, CA where Sheldon attended high school. It was there that he met the love of his life and future bride, Marilyn Jones. He attended San Jose State College where he received his undergraduate degree and his master’s degree in Chemistry. He taught High School chemistry before he and Marilyn moved their young family to Austin, TX where Sheldon would earn his PhD in Chemistry.
