Clean energy is imperative

As Ann Donnelly pointed out (“Blackout a wake-up for council on energy,” The Columbian, March 7), Clark County Utilities did a magnificent job of keeping the power on during our freeze last month. But what if two energy sources electricity and natural gas were to be reduced to just electricity?
After the San Francisco Loma Prieta fires, we should understand the benefit of not having natural gas pipelines. This benefit would also include not concerning ourselves with their corrosive nature, failure, and leakage while hidden underground. Basic economics will tell you that installing, repairing, and operating two systems will cost more than doing the same with one system.
