3 cops facing rape accusations present evidence to prove innocence

SunStar + May 11, 2021 THE three police officers of the San Fernando Police Station in southern Cebu have presented evidence, a security camera footage, that belies the rape accusation hurled against them by a woman. The video shows the three officers responding to a road incident about the same time when the alleged rape happened. A group of traffic enforcers also said they saw the officers in the area where the road incident occurred. According to the woman’s complaint, she was raped inside the police station by the three officers at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2021. The location of the security camera that captured the three officers going out of the police station is in the police station, according to the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) Director Englebert Soriano.

The three policemen, however, are set to file countercharges against the woman and her mother. Police Col. Engelbert Soriano, Cebu Police Provincial Office officer-in-charge, said Monday, May 10, 2021, they have evidence to prove that the three policemen were not in the station at the time that the alleged rape happened because they were instructed to respond to an incident. Investigation also showed that it was not the first time that the woman lodged such a complaint. She had also accused other policemen from other police stations of rape, Soriano added.

Ronnie Montejo, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7), said he was enraged upon learning the alleged abuse but he was also informed that it was just fabricated. “Based on the initial investigation, there were inconsistencies in the statement of the woman,” Montejo said. Police Lt. Col. Alejandro Batobalonos, chief of the Integrity Monitoring and Enhancement Group-Visayas Field Unit (IMEG-VFU), informed Montejo Sunday that a woman appeared before their office accusing three personnel of the San Fernando Police Station of rape.
