The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday inaugurated the new member representing Aba-North/South Federal Constituency in Abia State, Mr Chimaobi Ebisike.
Ebisike of the Peoples Democratic Party replaced Ossy Prestige, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, who died in Germany on February 8, 2021.
After the inauguration, Gbajabiamila said he expected the new member in the All Progressives Congress, which is the ruling party and has majority in the chamber.
“Congratulations once again. As it has been the practice and the trend in the last few weeks, we will be expecting your letter of defection to the APC very soon,” he said.
Ahead of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, the President-Designate, Alok Sharma MP, recently visited Nigeria to discuss the United Kingdom’s collaborative partnership on adaptation and action to avert climate damage. Chiemelie Ezeobi reports
Climate change includes both global warming driven by human emissions of greenhouse gases, and the resulting large-scale shifts in weather patterns. Wikipedia posits that though there have been previous periods of climatic change, since the mid-20th century, humans have had unprecedented impact on earth’s climate system and caused change on a global scale.
Essentially, the environmental effects of climate change are broad and far-reaching, affecting oceans, ice, and weather as has been repeatedly witnessed through earthquakes, typhoons, flooding, hurricane, snow storms, wildfires and even change in weather conditions.

A member of the House of Representatives from Ondo State, Peter Makinde, has defected from the African Democratic Congress to the All Progressives Congress.
Makinde, in his letter of defection, read to members at the plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, blamed the defection on the alleged division in the ADC.
“You’re welcome to the progressive party,” Gbajabiamila said after reading the letter.
Several members of the Peoples Democratic Party, however, screamed point of order.
A leader of the minority caucus, Nicholas Ossai, who was allowed to speak, however, protested against the defection, stating that it breached Section 68 of the Constitution.
