Emory established the first undergraduate African American studies program in the South in 1971. Now the university will build on that foundation, launching a new PhD program in fall 2023.
African American studies faculty at Emory University are rolling out of a new doctoral program that will be the first in the Southeast and the first at a private university in the South.
An Emory College of Arts and Sciences pilot features 10 seminars, representing areas of the liberal arts, that will introduce first-year students to flourishing, enabling them to make stronger connections during their learning journey.
