Successful Nigerian startups like Flutterwave and Paystack (acquired by Stripe) are encouraging young people to pursue careers in tech.  The demand for tech is growing, developer communities are emerging, and companies like Facebook are investing heavily in the region. When Nigerian developer Gift Egwuenu first started learning computer science as a student in 2012, she felt isolated: She was learning on her own most of the time, she told Insider.  But that changed in 2018 when she dove into the world of open source and discovered Nigeria s bustling developer community. As she learned the programming language JavaScript, she found thousands of Nigerian developers on GitHub and started contributing to projects there herself.
