The process to recruit four commissioners to the national electoral agency, 15 months to the General Election, will commence on Thursday.
This is after President Uhuru Kenyatta officially declared vacancies of four commissioners to the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), who resigned following the disputed 2017 presidential elections, which saw the Supreme Court nullify the August 8 poll results.
In a gazette notice dated April 14, the President has effectively kick-started the tedious recruitment process of replacing the commissioners. However, this exercise is preceded by the appointment of a seven-member selection panel as stipulated in the IEBC Act, 2020.

NTV anchor Mark Masai went off the news script to condemn politicians who were embroiled in gun drama, voter bribery, assault of IEBC officials and other election malpractices during by-elections which were conducted on Thursday, March 4.
Masai, on Friday, March 5, during a live news bulletin raised concerns about the political temperature in the country.
The anchor warned that Kenya may emerge the greatest loser if the 2022 General Elections will be similar to the mini polls, which were predicted to be a litmus taste for the main polls.

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata was on Tuesday removed as Senate Majority Whip by Jubilee Party and replaced by Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi.
According to Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, the decision was arrived at following a number of issues, key among them being breach of confidentiality.
“His biggest failure as far as leadership is concerned was discussing private matters with other parties. You don’t kiss and tell.
“It is that breach of confidentiality that has made his position untenable,” Tuju said.
Having taken over from Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as the Majority Whip in May 2020, Kang’ata enjoyed a cordial relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta and was among those who backed the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

Impeached Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and the county Assembly began submitting their documents to the Senate yesterday as they prepare to argue their case next week.
The two parties have three days to furnish the Senate Clerk with their evidence.
Speaker Ken Lusaka told The Standard yesterday that the governor and the county Assembly have until Monday to file the particulars and responses ahead of the Senate plenary probe on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Senate will convene for a special sitting on Wednesday and Thursday to hear the submissions and cross-examine the embattled governor and his accusers.
